Right now I am writing this at 37.2Kbps. I have tried several times tonight to logon at a higher speed with no luck. Most of the time, I am able to get on line at 50 Kpbs or even 52Kbps. Many times I get really slow times in the 30's.

My question is this - will I get at least 50Kbps on my V.92 modem if I switch to Copper.net? Or will my dial-up speed be at the mercy of my phone company?

I am tired of slow speeds, and it hits me most when I want to download something important like virus definitions.

Copper.Net provides an industry standard "56k" dial up connection. The speed at which you connect to the Internet is determined by a number of factors: the type and speed of your modem, the quality of the phone lines in your area, and the amount of traffic on the Internet. Because of all these factors, you should not expect your connection speed to be exactly the same as the speed listed for your modem. Very often it is actually less.

Thank you for your post.

:Hi, Just wanted you to know i have used Copper.net hi speed for 4 months, and i think  it;s just as good as AOL or Comcast, believe me, i've had both, AOL runs on SLOW  24-7, Comcast is expensive and slowly slows down till you gotta call them to wake up.Copper.net runs at a good speed and is steady no matter how much stuff you have on it, I give it an "A". Service is great and you can't beat the price, sure am glad i found it.

it is the phone lines in almost every case---my kids live in Southern  New Jersey and AOL is running at 24-26000bps down there---I have never been connected any higher than 30000bps (usually at 26400bps) here in DuBois, PA, altho' I have a friend in the area that get as high as 40000bps on his phone line--believe I read that you could not expect higher than 53000 in any event on a 56k modem?---my 2cents  :lol::lol:
