Email Setup Instructions - Outlook Express for Macintosh

Outlook Express comes bundled with your Macintosh Operating system. This set up information applies to Outlook Express versions 5.0.2 qnd 5.0.3. These instructions show first time installation as well as additional account installation using the Outlook Express Setup Wizard.

Running Outlook Express for the first time brings up a dialog box that will guide you through the set up procedure.

If you are upgrading or switching email programs click the first radio button, If this is your first email program, click the second radio button. Don't click the third one. {Clicking the second radio button will skip the next 3 steps}.

Check the "I want to use Outlook Express ..." checkbox and forget about the test drive for now.

Click the right arrow key to continue.

Providing that you have selected the first radio button in the previous Welcome window, you now need to select which email program you are upgrading from or switching to.

There is not much more to this one so click the right arrow to continue on to the next step once you have selected your old email program.

The two radio buttons below the line should never be clicked, if they need to be clicked then your Outlook Express installation probably wont work anyway.

Click the right arrow key to continue.

This Ready to Import window allows you to choose what previous information (if any) you would like to import into your new email program.

You can import Mail Messages, Address Books, Signature files, Accounts, Rules and even Preferences from you previous email program. Check which information you want to import. {Choosing something that does not exist in your previous email program will simply be ignored in the import}.

This Your Name window is just for that, your name. Enter your name just as it would appear in any correspondence you may make using Capitalization for the first letters:

example: John Doe.

This is displayed along with your email address in all the emails that you send.

Click the right arrow key to continue.

Enter your qwickconnect email address in this Internet E-mail Address window;

example: johndoe@copper.net

the johndoe in this example is the
Copper.net account username.

(The "Login" button on the http://www.tthemacisp.net website has a user maintenance area which allows dialup customers to configure an additional 4 email boxes, each of which can have their own account in Outlook Express).

Click the right arrow key to continue.

This E-mail Server Names window is where you set the connection to the mail servers.

Copper.net has a POP server for its incoming mail. Set the Incoming mail server to POP.

Set the Incoming mail (POP,IMAP) server to mail.copper.net.

Set the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server to mail.copper.net.

Click the right arrow key to continue.

The Internet Mail Login window is where you enter your Copper.net username and password.

Enter your Account ID: which is the
Copper.net user name.

example: johndoe

NOTE: FOR ALL OTHER DIAL-UP COMPANIES, THE USERNAME NEEDS TO BE THE FULL EMAIL ADDRESS (EXAMPLE@COMPANY.COM)

Enter your Password, and it should not be this obvious but in this example, johndoe picked:

cornpone which looks like: ********

Check the Save Password checkbox.

Click the right arrow key to continue.

Outlook Express allows you to have multiple E-mail accounts with different configurations for each. To identify the different accounts a name should be provided for this account.

Enter the Account name, so in keeping with this example, enter:
johndoe@copper.net

Check the "Send and Receive All" checkbox and click the Finish button to complete the Copper.net E-mail account setup.
